I Am...

I am...
  • Sick as a dog
  • At work even though I am sick as a dog
  • Exhausted from only sleeping for two and a half hours last night...because I am sick as a dog
  • Taking off Friday because my parents will be in town
  • Leaving for New Orleans Sunday evening
  • Under lots of stress at work as I try to meet my deadlines prior to leaving
  • Early voting tomorrow morning and will not be able to do any work
  • Still not sure for whom I will be voting
  • Waiting for the election to be over so I do not have to hear about it anymore
  • Annoyed that I lost my fantasy football game by one point
  • Rooting for the Boston Red Sox
  • Driving to Clemson on Saturday for the football game against N.C. State
  • Meeting with a florist to discuss wedding stuff this evening
  • Signing a contract to have my rehearsal dinner at the 755 Club
  • Attempting to slide in wedding crap amidst the rest of my life
  • Not working out or golfing because they do not slide in amidst the rest of my life
  • Out of the time I allotted myself for posting to my blog

Indiana Wedding

This weekend I attended the wedding of two good friends of mine: Brian and Rachel. The wedding took place in Evansville, Indiana where the only thing to do is gamble on a riverboat called Casino Aztar. I really enjoyed getting to see what their lives were like growing up in Indiana and I thought their wedding was excellent. Robert took some good pictures of the event (nice camera work).

Painful Anniversary

Last year, I remember waking up on this very day and thinking to myself, "What went wrong? How could this happen? This was our chance!" That is because yesterday marked the one year anniversary of the Chicago Cubs/Steve Bartman incident.

For those of you that do not remember, The Cubs were leading Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS 3-0 when a ball was popped up in foul territory. Cubs' outfielder Moises Alou tracked the ball over toward the left field stands and made a leaping attempt to snag the ball when innocent (at the time) fan Steve Bartman made an attempt for the ball as well. Alou did not make the catch, the Cubs went on to give up eight runs in the inning and eventually lost Game 6. They then proceeded to lose Game 7 as well, and all because Steve Bartman "got in the way".

Do I think Alou could have made the catch without Bartman's interference? Maybe...and I stress maybe.
Do I believe Steve Bartman cost the Chicago Cubs the game and the series? No.
Is it still the most painful memory for Cubs fans everywhere in recent history? Yes.

I cannot speak for all Cubs fans, but I forgive you Steve Bartman (although you did what any baseball or Cubs fan would do by going for that ball). You do not deserve to be harassed or blamed for everything that happened.

Do not worry Steve Bartman and Cubs fans. We will get ours soon enough.

New Orleans, Here I Come

I have registered for Macromedia MAX 2004, a conference where nerds get together to talk about nerdy stuff. The good thing about going to a conference where the better part of four days is spent learning and discussing ColdFusion and various other technologies, is that this conference is in New Orleans, Louisiana. How great is that?!

I have never been to New Orleans, but have heard incredible stories. While attending a druken "T&A fest" like Mardi Gras sounds like a wonderful idea, I have always said that I wanted to visit when I could truly experience the city and its culture. The conference is not going to take up my entire schedule and I plan on making the most of my first trip. To clarify, alcohol will be drank and fun will be had, but they will have to work in conjunction with my desire to see what New Orleans has to offer...oh yeah...and with my attempt to learn something at the conference.

Google SMS

Google's success can be linked to many things, one of which has to be innovation. A mere few months ago, Google released Gmail (for which I still have 6 invites), a web-based email tool designed to redefine how the world looks at email. Now Google has released another interesting tool called Google SMS.

Google SMS (Short Message Service) takes a query you enter from your cell phone, sends it a special Google service, and you receive a response a few seconds later. It will allow you to look up people, phone numbers, restaurants in certain area codes, and loads of other things...all without Internet connectivity. Really neat.

Oh the possibilities.

It's About Freakin' Time

MTV has finally removed its head from its ass. After years of watching cities that nobody really wanted to see like Paris and Philadelphia, MTV is bringing "The Real World" to Atlanta.

First off, I am biased because I currently live in Atlanta. I can admit that. But I have seen many of the great cities in this country and across the world in my 25-plus years, and I think Atlanta can hold a candle to almost any of them...especially in the manner in which MTV is looking for. I love Atlanta for all of its history, its people, its entertainment, its dining, its party scene...I could go on for hours. Atlanta is a great place to live (if you can survive the suburban sprawl), and I am excited that the rest of the world will finally get a chance to see what the city has to offer.

My source: Q100 radio. According to the morning show, they were at a casting call event (I think) here in Atlanta last night, and the "Real World" producers were attending as well. The producers said that the show's 16th season will be taking place in Atlanta, that the cast has almost been finalized, and that the living space has not be officially selected yet, but they are looking for a loft possibly in Midtown. The show is set to begin taping this winter and will air some time in the first half of 2005.

My message to the MTV family: "Welcome To Atlanta".

Go Braves!

I am going to the Braves/Houston playoff baseball game tonight. I hate the Houston Astros. Go Braves!
